About Me
Hey everyone! My name is Nina Boe, and I'm from Seattle, Washington.
In June 2018 I finished my master's in Public Administration at the beautiful University of Washington; UW is also where I also studied during my undergraduate work. My previous studies include Political Science and Eastern European Languages, Literatures & Cultures. I'm a huge language nerd and have studied Spanish, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, some Turkish, and have also learned Portuguese. I'm passionate about language, travel, cultural competency, international development, community-building, and tons more. Additional topics of interest include peace and conflict development, mediation, reconciliation, dialogue, peace building, education, women's rights, and youth issues.
In January of 2018, I accepted an invitation from the Peace Corps to serve as a community development volunteer in Macedonia starting in September of 2018. I'm super excited to learn Macedonian (and maybe more, depending on where my placement is!) My passions since high school and undergrad have centered around the Balkans, and I'm super excited to get back to that in more of a professional capacity.
Why Peace Corps?
I grew up in West Seattle, and my late mother was very active in the community. Perhaps in part because of her influence, I've always been passionate about public service and giving back to my communities. Over the years, I have volunteered and interned with various organizations or served on non-profit boards. I've had the opportunity to study and volunteer abroad before, spending two years in Brazil. Around halfway through my master's program, I started looking at what might come next. I'd kept a list of interesting organizations with which I might look for work some day, but randomly thought about the Peace Corps again. I'd created an online account with them years before, but hadn't ever finished my application.
In looking again, I checked first with the Balkans -- given my undergraduate interests, I was always interested in bringing it back to where my passions started. As it so happened, I saw there was an upcoming application period for Macedonia - and that the community economic development project description was a lot of what I had been studying and doing in various capacities over the years.
Aside from that, the Peace Corps is also a program that aligns with things about which I am passionate. It was started in 1960 when then-Senator/later President John F. Kennedy called for US citizens to serve their country by living and working in developing countries and to promote world peace and friendship. The three original goals of the Peace Corps have remained the same over the years:
I am excited to spend 2+ years in Macedonia! I'd love for you to follow along.

- Helping the people of interested countries in meeting their needs for trained men & women
- Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served
- Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of all Americans
